Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025. Computers still running it no longer receive regular security updates, which makes them an easy target over time.
Step 1: Find Out What You Have
List every computer in the business with its Windows version, age and hardware specification. Many organisations are surprised by how many older machines are still in use.
Step 2: Check Which PCs Can Upgrade
Windows 11 has stricter hardware requirements, including a supported processor and TPM 2.0. Newer computers can usually upgrade free of charge. Older ones often cannot.
Step 3: Decide Upgrade, Replace or Isolate
- Upgrade compatible machines to Windows 11 after testing your key applications.
- Replace devices that cannot upgrade or are near the end of their useful life.
- Isolate any machine that must stay on Windows 10 for a specific reason, and limit its network and internet access.
Microsoft offers paid Extended Security Updates for a limited period. They can buy time, but they are a bridge, not a plan.
Step 4: Migrate Properly
Move user data, check printer and application compatibility, and apply your security settings before handing devices back to staff.
