A new office involves more IT decisions than most people expect. Starting early avoids an empty office in the first week.
Eight to Twelve Weeks Before
- Confirm internet availability and order connectivity early, as installation lead times vary.
- Review the floor plan for desks, meeting rooms, printers and a secure comms room or cabinet.
- Plan structured cabling and power with the fit out contractor.
Four to Eight Weeks Before
- Order network equipment, Wi-Fi access points and any new workstations.
- Arrange telephony, access control, CCTV and meeting room technology.
- Plan how existing equipment will be moved and reconnected.
Two Weeks Before
- Install and test network equipment and Wi-Fi.
- Test internet, telephony and printing.
- Prepare a move day plan with responsibilities and contacts.
Move Weekend
- Move and reconnect equipment in a planned order.
- Test each desk and meeting room.
- Be on site for the first morning to resolve any issues quickly.
